{"id":1184,"date":"2014-10-06T00:52:57","date_gmt":"2014-10-05T16:52:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iraia.net\/blog\/?p=1184"},"modified":"2014-10-28T17:16:49","modified_gmt":"2014-10-28T09:16:49","slug":"how-to-console-a-grieving-father","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iraia.net\/blog\/2014\/10\/06\/how-to-console-a-grieving-father\/","title":{"rendered":"How to console a grieving father"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night I bid my friend a last farewell.<br \/>\nFlowers and candles have softened his face now,<br \/>\nMangled by a thousand bullets beyond belief.<br \/>\nHis father in black I greet\u00a0with a sad hello.<br \/>\nWear and tear have softened his face now,<br \/>\nListening to a hundred voices sing in grief.<\/p>\n<p>How does one console a grieving father?<\/p>\n<p>We share with him stories about the son of nimble feet,<br \/>\nFording\u00a0rivers\u00a0with a band of warrior poets,<br \/>\nRousing village after village in\u00a0a dozen tongues.<br \/>\nThe son like Eman lived among the nameless ones<br \/>\nIn the ever-moving eye of the mountain storm.<br \/>\nThe father says, &#8220;I would have joined them too if I were young.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>How does one console a grieving mother?<\/p>\n<p>We send her an orchid from the guerrilla zone.<br \/>\nHidden in its highland perch, a smile unfolds<br \/>\nIn petals of\u00a0gentle reds and fiery purples.<br \/>\nMother understands. As\u00a0her child rejoins the earth<br \/>\nTo blend with forest greens and browns, we behold:<br \/>\nA thousand sprouts take their place in great perennial circles.<\/p>\n<p>How does one console a grieving people?<\/p>\n<p>A tapestry of poems like these we weave for fallen fighters<br \/>\nAnd wipe our tears.
